Dunalp, Indiana (WNDU) – Digging deeper, a former Concord High School teacher faces multiple charges, some of which relate to inappropriate sexual contact with students.
Andrew Cowells faces 13 felonies and 5 misdemeanors and the Concord community is still in shock after learning the details of the allegations, and I must warn you, some of the details are troubling.
I was disgusted to go to a school like this, said a student from Concord. We keep them anonymous to protect their identity.
It’s a long list of charges. The probable cause document is at the bottom of this story.
I’m a little shocked he was a good teacher and I think most of the kids who had him thought he was a really good teacher, says Amy Johnson. His daughter had Cowells for the 7th grade
But there is nothing good in the allegations against Andrew Cowells.
Part of the prosecution documents I got my hands on alleges the former Concord professor asked a 15-year-old to put his hands in his pockets and play pool. Cowells reportedly announced that this had turned him on.
It’s sick, it’s really sick, like it’s not something you would expect because schools are supposed to be a safe place, Voice of a Concord student who saw police responding in high school on the day where Cowells was removed from the building by police. We also kept this student anonymous to protect his identity.
Another allegation states that Cowells walked into a bathroom with several students, pulled down his own pants, grabbed the students’ buttocks and looked over a student’s shoulder as he urinated.
The probable cause document then accuses Cowells of trying to convince a 15-year-old student to run over him in class.
The victim refused.
Cowells used to teach at Concord Jr. High and for some who were new to it at the time, those burdens just don’t add up.
Like when my daughter got him in grade 7 he was a great role model, they all loved him, he made the class interesting, Johnson says.
If these accusations are true, it seems that something has changed.
After all of this, a Concord Junior High student I spoke with wonders if Concord High School is a safe place.
