HYDERABAD: S Tirupathi Reddy (50), who worked as a driver for the TSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) at the Ranigunj I bus depot, committed suicide on Tuesday.
Reddy collapsed near the controller’s office inside the depot and after seeing a bottle of poison in his hands, was rushed to hospital, but died en route. Police said she was being examined if he consumed poison at another location and went to the depot or consumed inside the depot.
His colleagues alleged that he was harassed by the depot’s superiors, without giving him regular tasks. They organized a demonstration in front of the depot to demand action against those responsible and justice in Tirupathi Reddy.
Tirupathi Reddy did not show up for work a few days ago, after which he was told to meet with the depot manager who will assign tasks to him. His colleagues said that even after returning to work after two days of absence, he was not given any tasks. Also on Tuesday he showed up at the depot, but when he was not assigned any function he felt insulted and took the extreme step.
Police said there were serious issues in his family that could have caused him to resort to this extreme measure. However, allegations made by other employees that superiors harass him without giving him a job are also being investigated. No suicide note was found.
