Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Trevor Bauer faces allegations of assault by a woman resulting from prior sex earlier this year, according to a TMZ report released on Tuesday.
The woman obtained a temporary domestic violence restraining order in LA County Superior Court, according to the report. Bauer has denied the allegations.
The Pasadena Police Department said it was investigating the incident, which it said happened on May 16. The case could be referred to the district attorney’s office as early as Wednesday, a source told ESPN, in which case a decision would be made on whether the case will move forward.
Bauer’s attorney, Jon Fetterolf, released a lengthy statement to ESPN denying any wrongdoing on behalf of his client. In the statement, Fetterolf called the relationship “consensual” and called the woman’s claims “baseless” and “defamatory.”
ESPN chose not to name the woman, although Fetterolf named her in his statement.
“Mr. Bauer had a brief and completely consensual sexual relationship initiated by [the woman] from April 2021, “Fetterolf said in the statement.” We have posts that show [the woman] repeatedly asking for “hard” sex involving requests to be “choked” and slapped in the face. In their two meetings, [the woman] drove from San Diego to Mr. Bauer’s residence in Pasadena, Calif. where she continued to dictate what she wanted from him sexually and he did as she was asked.
According to Fetterolf, Bauer and the woman had two encounters, and she continued to text him with “friendly and flirtatious jokes.” But after their second meeting, Fetterolf said, the woman shared photos of herself and told Bauer that she had “sought medical attention for a concussion.” Bauer responded with “concern and confusion,” Fetterolf said, and the woman was “neither angry nor accusing”.
“Mr. Bauer and [the woman] haven’t corresponded for more than a month and haven’t seen each other for more than six weeks, ”Fetterolf said in his statement. “Its basis for filing a protection order is non-existent, fraudulent and deliberately omits key facts, information and its own relevant information. communications. Any claim that the couple’s dating was not 100% consensual is baseless, defamatory and will be refuted to the fullest extent of the law. “
Major League Baseball has been made aware of the allegations and will look into the matter, a source said.
A message requesting comments from the woman’s lawyer was not returned.
The woman’s agent, Marc Garelick, told TMZ her client “sought and obtained a court protection order against Mr Bauer” under the Domestic Violence Protection Act, adding that her client “suffered severe physical and emotional pain” as a result. “a recent assault”.
Bauer, the 2020 National League Cy Young award winner with the Cincinnati Reds, signed a three-year, $ 102 million contract that includes two player options with the Dodgers in February. The Dodgers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
