Texas Senator Ted Cruz: Critical Race Theory is as Racist as the “White-Clothed Klan Men” | KWKT

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Texas Senator Ted Cruz took to critical race theory – much ridiculed school-age education on the history of racism in the United States – on Friday calling the whole thing a teachings of “just as racist as the Klan men in white sheets”.

During an appearance at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Road to Majority conference in Duluth, Ga., Republican Cruz condemned the CRT, according to The Hill, telling attendees he teaches students that “all white people are racist “.

Critical breed theory should be addressed in special session, Governor Greg Abbott said

“Critical Race Theory says America is fundamentally racist and irreparably racist,” Cruz said Friday. “Critical Race Theory seeks to pit us against each other.”

Proponents of CRT education say it is simply meant to describe how the American legal system and society as a whole have been marginalized by the inherent white supremacy within. The authors of a Harvard analysis explain that the CRT identifies white privilege in an attempt to dismantle it. The “race”, they argue, does not even exist, but is created by those at the top of the hierarchy to keep those who are considered “inferior” below them.

But Republicans in particular condemned the CRT’s intention: instead, calling it racist per se.

“Critical breed theory is fanatic,” Cruz continued on Friday. “It’s a lie and it’s just as racist as the Klan men in white sheets.”

In addition to Cruz, the famous Republican representative of North Carolina, Madison Cawthorn, also took the stage to denounce the CRT, because it “teaches people to be a victim and not a winner”.

Nationally and statewide, the CRT is a prime target for GOP lawmakers. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott last week said abolishing Critical Race Theory would be on the state’s special agenda. It happened just days after he signed Bill 3979 – which dictates who lessons on race can be taught.

HB 3979 says teachers should present both sides of ideology when teaching current race-related events. In addition, mentions of The New York Times Project 1619, a nationally acclaimed long-running journalism project, will be banned. The project, which began in 2019, explores the origins and timeline of black slavery in America. The laws of HB 3979 are expected to come into force on September 1.

Should we fight against systemic racism in schools?

Meanwhile, across the country, bills like HB 3979 are also making their way into law.

Earlier this month, the Florida Board of Education banned the CRT, saying the teachings “distort historical events.” In May, the Montana attorney general banned the CRT and other anti-racist programs after saying they “are racially discriminating in the name of ending racial discrimination.”

Despite the fierce and ongoing debate over Critical Race Theory, even some supporters of its teachings say Republicans’ disapproval is inaccurate, for ‘Critical Race Theory’ as a singular ideology is currently not officially administered in schools. What is considered “CRT”, they argue, only teaches facts as facts and is “not strict political doctrine”.

Earlier this week, NYT contributor and author Kurt Eichenwald criticized Texas law, saying “Texas has outlawed” critical race theory “with a law that does not define it – because it is not taught. in no public school and no GQP [a reference to QAnon] a politician could explain what it is.
