If you are a big fan of anime, the name Mappa will be familiar to you. The title belongs to one of the most popular animation houses in the industry thanks to its work on several successful series. Over the past two years, the studio has worked on hit shows like The God of High School, Attack on Titan, and more. However, recent rumors have cast a bad light on Mappa’s working conditions, and the studio is now responding to the issue.
The post came straight from Mappa as its official website shared the post with fans in Japan. The memo begins by acknowledging recent rumors about the studio’s working conditions and low wages, but Mappa insists the rumors are all misleading.

“The other day we learned that inside information about one of our unpublished works had been disclosed on social media in a deceptive manner,” Mappa wrote before giving further details. “It’s a fact that unpublished work is not a project we’re commissioning for a big platform.”
The statement went on to explain that unannounced work was sold to networks for a period of time, so the production committee had little funds to use for development. This forced workers to take a smaller salary, and Mappa also pointed out that the show’s production costs (and salaries) were all set based on its total sales. The studio then said it never forced artists or producers to contract with them without knowing their rate of pay.
“That’s not to say that this work, and none of our previous ones, has ever forced a creator to work for an unreasonably low salary comparable to the cost of production,” Mappa explained before saying the studio will take action against it. rumors about his work. conditions.
Obviously, the studio has a different message from the animators who have spoken out against Mappa in the past. This back-and-forth is disturbing to see, and it comes at a time when Japanese animators are peeling off the veneer of the industry. The accusations of appalling working conditions, unbearable wages, unpaid overtime, etc. have plagued the anime industry for years. And now, it looks like Mappa is the latest studio to fight such rumors.
