MOSCOW, July 22. / TASS /. The attacks on the law on foreign agents prove that these measures are painful for elements hostile to Russia, said deputy foreign ministry spokesman Oleg Gavrilov.
“Paradoxically, the law that aims to increase transparency and awareness of society is under attack,” he said at a meeting on attempts to foreign interference in the elections. “Such criticism could be taken as certain proof that these measures are painful for our enemies.”
According to the diplomat, the requirement to tag content effectively exposes the infrastructure of Western influence over the mechanisms of public opinion-forming in Russia, and thus weakens its destabilizing potential.
“The implementation of these measures immediately began to be covered by the relevant media as a manifestation of the repressive nature of the state apparatus, which in practice fundamentally contradicts the reality,” noted Gavrilov.
The diplomat noted that recognizing a media outlet as a foreign agent does not prevent it from working, but only requires it to inform readers that its funding comes from foreign sources.
