APPLY: How to get UK Short Term Visa for Poultry Workers, Truck Drivers

[ad_1]

The United Kingdom (UK) has opened temporary visa applications for poultry workers and heavy truck drivers.

Last month, the UK government announced it would grant short-term work visas to foreign truck drivers and poultry workers until Christmas 2021.

Eligible people are expected to enter and work in the UK for three months in the run-up to Christmas in order to provide “short-term relief to the road haulage industry”.

The UK truck driver shortage has been exacerbated by the pandemic, an aging workforce, poor working conditions and post-Brexit immigration policy.

Grant Shapps, UK Transport Secretary, had said the visa regime would mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the country’s transport and food industry.

TheCable understands that the UK government will grant temporary visas to 5,500 poultry workers and 4,700 heavy truck (HGV) drivers who are expected to carry food items.

WHO CAN APPLY

According to details on the UK government website, drivers of heavy goods vehicles who can carry food items are welcome to apply.

Meanwhile, eligible workers with on-farm or off-farm poultry experience are classified as:

butcher bird or game trainer killer and plucker plucker poultry processor poultry sticker poultry trusser food operator salvage or poultry manager poultry vaccinator poultry meat packer

HOW TO REGISTER

To apply, the UK Home Office has asked applicants to contact a program operator for application processes.

The four identified schema operators are:

Interested applicants can visit the operators’ websites for more information on how to submit their contact details and complete the application process.

The UK government has said poultry workers must apply under the temporary visa regime by November 15, 2021 – and that it will expire on December 31, 2021.

For heavy truck drivers, they should apply by December 1, 2021 and the visa will expire on February 28, 2022.
