Report: Classified items found in Trump storage unit in Fla.

WASHINGTON (AP) At least two items marked as classified were found in a storage unit in West Palm Beach, Florida, after former President Donald Trump’s lawyers arranged for a firm to find additional classified material, according to published reports. on Wednesday. The items were turned over to the FBI.

The Washington Post, citing anonymous sources, reported that the items were discovered by an outside team brought in by Trumps representatives to search his other assets after the FBI recovered the about 100 documents marked classified during an Aug. 8 search at his Palm Beach estate, Mar-a-Lago.

The nature of the newly found material was not immediately clear, but the storage unit where they were found was used to hold items from an office in northern Virginia used by Trump’s staff after he left office, the newspaper.

The 100 or so documents the FBI seized from Mar-a-Lago in August are on top of the 37 classified documents that Trump’s lawyers obtained from the home during a visit in June. In addition, 15 boxes containing approximately 184 classified documents were recovered in January by the National Archives and Records Administration.

The possibility that the Department of Justice has yet to recover all of the classified materials has existed for months.

The FBI’s search of the home in August came after investigators developed evidence indicating that additional sensitive documents remained there, even as Trump representatives confirmed that all the classified documents requested in a Justice Department subpoena was found and returned.

After a federal judge forced the Trump team to show full compliance with the subpoena, the newspaper said, it brought in an outside firm to search properties including the Trumps golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, as well which is also the Trump Tower in New York City.

A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment.

A spokeswoman for Trump, responding to reports about an outside firm seeking classified materials, said in a statement President Trump and his advisers continue to be cooperative and transparent, despite not unprecedented, illegal, and unwarranted attacks against President Trump and his family by the armed Department of Justice.

Spokesman Steven Cheung did not respond to a follow-up phone call about subsequent reporting that a search of the storage unit turned up at least two items with classification marks.
