Former President Donald Trump issued a missive Saturday morning to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and cited a report that says he refers to him as “Meatball Ron.”
Trump has called DeSantis “Ron DeSanctimonious” on multiple occasions, but according to a New York Times report published Saturday, Trump referred to him as “Meatball Ron” in private conversations in what appeared to be a reference to the appearance of the governor, his Italian ancestors. , or both.
According to the Times, the former president also privately referred to DeSantis as “Shutdown Ron” because of the restrictions he initiated early in the pandemic.
DeSantis’ refusal to recuse himself from the 2024 race for the Republican presidential nomination has angered Trump, who believes the governor owes him his gubernatorial endorsement in 2018. Trump declared his candidacy in November, and DeSantis is widely believed to be a contender in 2024 and the main threat to a Trump nomination.
“I will never call Ron DeSanctimonious ‘Meatball’ Ron, because Fake News insists I do,” Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social. “Even FoxNews [sic] Killing the light Paul Ryan he respects, Low Energy Jeb Bush is his hero and always by his side, his beaches and States are closed for a long time, his test, test, test for China Virus didn’t go well, and his loyalty skills are really weak, it’s not appropriate to use the word ‘meatball’ as a moniker for Ron!”
It’s the second time in four days that Trump has denied the Times’ reporting on the nickname.
All the Fake News is reporting that I am spending a large amount of my time coming up with a good nickname for Ron DeSanctimonious, which will obviously give him a chance at the presidency, Trump wrote.
