The Musk Starship space rocket completed the dress rehearsal as the first flight

In a significant step, Elon Musk’s SpaceX has completed dress rehearsals such as the first full flight for the Starship space rocket possibly capable of carrying astronauts to Mars, the company announced on Tuesday.

The space company conducted a “dress rehearsal” with the 395-foot (120-meter) Starship at its Starbase facility in South Texas, US.

“Starship completed a wetsuit dress rehearsal as it made its first full flight at Starbase. This is the first time the integrated Ship and Booster have been fully loaded with more than 10 million pounds of propellant,” SpaceX said in a tweet.

The dress rehearsal test will “help verify the full launch countdown sequence, as well as the performance of the Starship and orbit bearings for flight-like operations,” the company added.

The Starship consists of a giant first-stage booster called the Super Heavy and a 165-foot (50-meter) top-level spaceship.

Both elements are designed to be fully reusable, and both will be powered by SpaceX’s next-generation Raptor engines.

SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket (collectively referred to as Starship) represent a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry crew and cargo into orbit of Earth, Moon, Mars and beyond.

Starship will be the world’s most powerful launch vehicle ever developed, with the capability of carrying more than 100 metric tons to Earth orbit.

Starship is designed to send satellites farther and at a lower marginal cost per launch than our current Falcon vehicle.

With a payload compartment larger than any currently operational or developed fairing, Starship creates possibilities for new missions, including a space telescope even larger than James Webb, according to the company. IAN
