A League City man was shot dead after a robbery suspect followed him home from a restaurant to rob him Thursday night, according to police.

A white Ford SUV followed Jeffrey Johnson, 58, and his wife as they drove home from The Capital Grille at 5365 Westheimer Rd, League City Police Department investigators said showing surveillance footage.

Detectives believe the suspects followed Johnson and attempted to rob him around 11:20 p.m. at his home on the 1500 Waterside Dr. block. Johnson.
Johnson was shot several times in his garage, according to police.

Witnesses told investigators they saw three men wearing dark clothes flee the scene on foot.

Johnson was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

The Houston Police Department recently identified several Galleria locations where victims had been followed and robbed at gunpoint — a crime law enforcement officials dubbed “jugging.” Police say criminals are stalking high-end businesses to find robbery targets.

Anyone in the area who has surveillance footage or has information about the case is asked to contact detectives at 281-554-1882.
