Aston Villa 1-3 Liverpool: Player ratings – What the media say and stats – Liverpool FC

[ad_1]

Several Liverpool players stood out in their 3-1 win over Aston Villa, as the stars of defense and attack shone.

The Reds faced their first Premier League game for over a month on Boxing Day, in what looked like a tough match on paper.

Jurgen Klopp’s side weren’t perfect at Villa Park, but goals from Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Stefan Bagcetic earned them the three points.

That was enough to secure a third consecutive league win for the first time this season.

Here we compare our players’ ratings with those of readers of the Liverpool Echo, WhoScored, FotMob and This Is Anfield.

It was Salah (7.9) who got the best overall rating, one night when he equaled Sir Kenny Dalglish’s goal tally with 172 for Liverpool.

The 30-year-old opened the scoring with a close-range finish, before transforming into Van Dijk’s goal-maker shortly after.

Ian Doyle of The Echo thought Salah was “worried” by the hapless Tyrone Mings throughout, providing plenty of running and power.

King of Egypt was described by TIA’s Henry Jackson as “a truly great Anfield hero”, with few Reds players in history better than he.

Andy Robertson (7.8) came in second after his impressive display at both ends of the field.

The Scotsman’s assist allowed Salah to put Liverpool 1-0 up, and Villa ended up barely bothering to target his side defensively, such was his level of consistency there.

Robertson enjoyed a 90 percent success completion rate, according to FotMob, who also noted that he made five recoveries.

A narrow third came Van Dijk (7.7), who not only scored the net, but also stood tall during a Villa attack in the second half.

Jordan Henderson, Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (6.5) shared the lowest rating, but really, the trio was just as good.

Next up for Liverpool is a visit to Leicester on Friday night (8pm in the UK), with another necessary win in the top four race.
