MIAMI, Aug 12 (Reuters) – The transfer of Argentine football star Lionel Mess to the French club Paris St Germain included payment for cryptocurrency fan coupons, a source close to the issue that offered new big name approval for new digital resources.
Messi, 34, left Barcelona in Spain and signed a two-year deal with Saint Germain (PSG) in Paris on Tuesday.
Paris St Germain (PSG) said in a statement that Socios.com, a provider of club fan IDs, provided the tokens or signature fee included in its “welcome pack”.
The club did not disclose what percentage of the deal comprised tokens, but said he had received a “large amount.” Nor has it revealed the full financial package.
Fan IDs are a type of cryptocurrency that allows holders to vote mainly for small decisions related to their clubs. The clubs launching this year are English Premier League champion Manchester City and Italian AC Milan.
Like Bitcoin and other digital currencies, fan products can be exchanged on stock exchanges. They also have in common with other cryptocurrencies a tendency for wild price volatility, which causes some financial regulators to issue warnings to investors.
PSG said its fan products had traded a lot after reports of Mess’s move to the club appeared.
“The hype surrounding the latest signatures on the busy summer transfer window for clubs sparked huge interest in $ PSG fan IDs, with trading volumes exceeding $ 1.2 billion in the days leading up to the move,” it said.

The PSG logo, with a market capitalization of about $ 52 million, rose to more than 130 percent in just five days of the Mess’s arrival at more than $ 60 on Tuesday at noon. They last dropped 10% to about $ 40, according to the CoinMarketCap website.
