An overview of the largest PGA TOUR season in history

For PGA TOUR international players, trying to travel in the Covid era has proven to be very challenging. Adam Scott and his family (he has three young children) live in Switzerland. At the end of the English Royal St. Georges Open Championship, Scott could not travel home because the UK was on the Swiss Red List for passengers. So Scott spent a week outside the week in Spain, the seventh consecutive week away from home. He said it was difficult to spend time in person with his coach in 2021 due to travel restrictions. He didn’t even bother trying to get in with his physical coach.

I’m not complaining about anything, Scott said at the Wyndham Championship and noted that many of his colleagues don’t play PGA TOUR from Switzerland. I’ve made a lot of these decisions and I’m going to live with everything, but yes, on the golf side, if I just lowered my expectations a little, the level of frustration would have dropped.

I missed the boat to find the right cadence for the super season. It certainly feels like here in the states that a lot of things are back to normal a bit, you would say, and hopefully when we go next season, (we can) fall back into so many old rhythms.

There was one player whose world ranking placed him to compete in the Tokyo Olympics, but he didn’t rise in the months before he left. With the grand championship ahead of the Olympics and the World Championships (FedEx St.Jude) and FedExCup playoffs hiding soon after, it may not make the most sense to travel on your way to Tokyo. In the end, however, the player decided to go; he simply did not want to live with the repentances he could carry in his heart if he did not.

Xander Schauffele was delighted to leave. He left Tokyo Olympic gold around his neck, fulfills his dream, which he shared with his father Stefan. It was another great show, a great moment within the season that gave us so much. Yes, this has been a season like no other. And we have one more big finish on the front.
