The extension of the College Football Playoff model hits the vote

Just as there was a lot of momentum in expanding the playoffs for the current four-team college football, it seems like things may not be as locked and loaded as they looked.

Actually, according to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, the vote ahead of the 12-team playoff model has hit a rough patch. This will happen after the SEC is set up to welcome youTexas and Oklahoma, and then joining the elbows into an alliance between Big Ten, ACC, and Pac-12. It seems like all the big boys conferences are no longer playing just fine in one sandbox.

Famous people in the single CFP committees are concerned about the process and whether the proposed structure is right for conferences and groups, writes Dodd.

Not only that, but now it seems that the whole model may need to be addressed, and the preference is now for a much smaller extension than originally thought.

“The confusion has risen to the point where two high-profile sources involved in the process tell CBS Sports that they are supporting the expansion with less than the proposed 12 teams, perhaps as many as eight,” Dodd continues. According to some sources, the “alternative proposals” that are expected to emerge are likely to slow down the enlargement process. These proposals will certainly have different structures and uses in light of the growth of the SEC. “

It seems that with all the changes and money laundering that take place between Power Five conferences, there is a lot of mistrust and jealousy, causing a disagreement between doing things.

Call this what it is – a break ahead. While all the movements and vibrations have brought the fly into mere formality just a few months ago, at some point the expansion of the model seems inevitable.

Twelve always looked like a high number. Maybe when all the dust lands and everyone can return to the table, people will come to their senses and settle into the model of eight teams and call it a day.

As a reminder, any change in the playoffs would require a unanimous vote by the CFP Board (11 FBS Presidents / Chancellor). The group is due to meet with the CFP Management Committee (FBS Sports Directors) at the end of September, and things no longer look promising.

For all of you traditional, it seems like you might enjoy the current “one” model, and you don’t have to prove progress in a real playoff until a little later.
