Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Shane Lowry selected for the European Ryder Cup; Justin Rose missed

Ryder Cup veterans Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter captain added to the European Ryder Cup team Padraig Harrington on Sunday with a beginner Shane Lowry, 2019 Open Champion.

The final round of the European Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship outside London, saw nine automatic qualifiers, with Harrington making three major selections later.

The big name that is omitted is the English name Justin got up, who shot 65 on Sunday at Wentworth to make the final edition to get one of the seats. Rose has not made it to the PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs this year.

“There are great partnerships out there,” Harrington said. “My biggest difficulty is that I have too many good players.”

The Ryder Cup will be held on 25-26. September on the Whistling Straits in Haven, Wisconsin.

Lowry left himself vulnerable when he dropped from one of nine top spots to exactly 17th place at Wentworth. He noted how stressful the process was in the weeks leading up to it.

“It has been a long career goal for me to get into the Ryder Cup,” Lowry said. “I remember sitting in the media center after winning The Open and when the scores started, I said it was my No. 1 goal. And Captain Padraig is special to me. I’m happy to choose, I tried my best to make the team alone. I want to deliver points to Europe. ”

Europe uses the European points list, which consists of points earned on a European tour, and the World points list, which uses world rankings.

Four players leaving the European points list finished first Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton and Bernd Wiesberger – who earned one of the last two places. Rahm is one of the top ten players in the world on a European tour; The U.S. side is among the top ten.

Five of the world’s points list were missed Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Paul Casey, Matt Fitzpatrick and Lee Westwood.

Westwood, 48, grabbed last place and appears in the 11th Ryder Cup and breaks the record. Nick Faldo. Phil Mickelson 12 have the most appearances in the United States.

Garcia and Poulter looked all but confident given their previous performances. Garcia played in his first Ryder Cup in 1999 and has earned the most points in European Ryder Cup history. He is 22-12-7 in nine Ryder Cup matches.

“I trust he stands there and is a leader,” Harrington said. He just loves the Ryder cup. She loves everything in it. I think he really enjoys mentoring young people. He likes to be with other friends in the team room. We all know that Sergio would have wanted to be a team player all his life. It’s like he was created for it. ”

Poulter has played 14-6-2 in the previous six Ryder Cups and never made individual losses.

“This shouldn’t have been too much doubt,” Harrington said of Poulter. “He’s a postman. He’s proven it. He’s invincible in singles. An incredible passion in his matches. He raises his teammates and he raises his team. I’m excited to have a player who plays and a formatted player. ”
