Quadri Aruna won the Swedish Kristian Karlsson to reach the semi-finals of the 2021 World Table Tennis Championship (WTT).
Aruna continued his sparkling performance in the championship series with a win over Karlsson’s 4-3 Saturday morning at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
As a result, he became the first African table tennis player of all time to take the quarter-finals in WTTF championship history.
World number 19 won the first set 11-9, while the Swede won the second 6-11.
The Nigerian star won the third set 11-9, but lost the fourth and fifth set 5-11, 10-12 to Karlsson.
Arunan had to dig deep to get back into the game, getting the sixth and seventh set 11-9, 11-6.
He will fight another Swedish Truls Moregard for a semi-final spot on Sunday morning.
