Beasts past the Hula vandals in Maui

Lahaina, HI – The Oregon State women’s basketball team opened the Maui Jim Maui Classic by beating Idaho in Lahaina, Hawaii 79-49.

“When we join this team, it gets more and more confidence,” said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. “They’re getting nicer and the ball is moving sharper. I think this team is growing in front of our eyes. There were a lot of really good things today, one of which was seeing the ball. Fall deep.”

Oregon State went 16-30 in the 3-point range of the game and fell short of the program record for the three points scored.

Tea Adams made the mark on this first Oregon State start, going from 5-8 floors to the finish with 13 points. He also recorded seven assists, which is equivalent to OSU’s awesome Maui Classic record Sydney Wiese and Aleah Goodman.

Greta Kampschroeder played another big game, 16 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Jones scored 10 points and seven rebounds.

Talia from Oelhoffen scored 11 points, six rebounds and three assists Kennedy Brown filled the statistics table with eight points, seven rebounds and a block.

Beavers had a 54-38 advantage over the glass.

The Beaver defense squeezed the start of the game, keeping Vandals ’goals for more than six minutes. Adams dropped one down from midfield in the first quarter buzzer and ended the frame with the Oregon State lead 15-3.

Oregon State remained in control in the second installment and advanced to a break of 31-15.

Adams led Beavers by eight points in the first half.

Oregon State’s 8-0 run lifted Beavers to 27 victories in the middle of the third quarter, causing a vandal timeout. The Beavers warmed up from a long finish until the end of the period as they headed 63-30 in the fourth.

Oregon State continued to rise with a fourth win of 30.

OSU is hosting the Maui Jim Maui Classic for the fifth time.

Beavers will return to Lahaina Civic Center on Sunday for a match with Northern Iowa.
