Mathias Pogba has been released from prison after being arrested and charged in September over an alleged blackmail scheme against his brother and former Manchester United midfielder Paul.

Mathias Pogbas lawyer Me Yassine Bouzrou confirmed the release of his clients to Le Parisien and BFM TVThe 32-year-old man has been in pretrial detention since his arrest.

The original release request was rejected already in September.

Four other people were also placed under formal investigation for extortion and criminal association.

Paul then told the police that the gang had been threatening him since March and demanded 11 million for “protection services”.

Paul reportedly paid the group 100,000 to “save time” when masked, armed men threatened him in his Paris apartment while on international duty – only to see another demand for several million.

Mathias Pogba has maintained his innocence, with his lawyer saying he is “totally oblivious” to any blackmail attempts against his brother.

According to the terms of his release, Mathias Pogba has reportedly been banned from contacting Paul and his mother.

He has also been prevented from leaving France and using social networks.

The saga began in August when Mathias posted a video vowing he would soon make a series of “big revelations” about his brother, including an allegation that Paul used a witch doctor to cast a spell on France team-mate Kylian Mbappe.

Sportsmail revealed that Pogba did indeed pay a wizard to help him in his injury-plagued career. However, he vehemently denies that this had anything to do with Mbapp, saying he never intended to harm anyone.

Instead, Pogba told investigators working at France’s Central Organized Crime Office (OCLCO) that he was “seeking to be protected from harm” and “also helping poor children in Africa” ​​with whom he was connected through an aid organization.

In October, French newspaper Le Monde reported new claims by Mathias, who said he had left Paul a voicemail message in the summer.

Mathias claimed he was almost killed in an alleged blackmail attempt by the France international and Juventus midfielder.

Mathias claimed that his home in Roissy-en-Brie, in the eastern suburbs of Paris, was broken into on July 30 by two men wearing balaclava.

‘I almost fainted. Call me now, hurry, otherwise I’ll take care of your image and you’ll regret it for the rest of your life,” Mathias Pogba is alleged to have said in a voicemail sent the next day.

Mathias, a former Wrexham and Crawley striker, shared more videos on his TikTok account when he was arrested.

The 32-year-old called his brother a “huge hypocrite, manipulator and cunning” in the videos, which were sent via a bot.

According to Le Monde, the videos were shot in the presence of brothers Roushdane and Machikour.

Both were named in Pogba’s statement to the police in connection with the alleged extortion attempt.

It remains unclear whether Mathias’ videos were filmed under any duress or whether he himself is involved in the alleged blackmail attempts, which he has continued to deny.

Following Mathias’ initial video, the couple’s mother, Yeo Moriba, signed a statement with Paul and his agent, Rafaela Pimenta, saying the allegations were “unfortunately no surprise”.
