PISCATWAY, NJ After the best season in program history, Rutgers women’s lacrosse announced its schedule for the spring 2023 campaign. The 15-game slate includes nine opponents that reached last season’s NCAA Tournament and six Big Ten Conference games.
The Scarlet Knights’ non-conference slate includes dates at 2022 NCAA qualifier Jacksonville (Feb. 12), Princeton (March 1), Stony Brook (April 12), Vermont (April 15) and James Madison (April 23). RU will also face NCAA Final Four participants Maryland (March 18) and Northwestern (April 6) and NCAA at-large selections Michigan (March 24) and Johns Hopkins (April 1).
In all, Rutgers will face nine opponents that appeared in last year’s NCAA Tournament and nine that either appeared or received votes in the final 2022 IWLCA Coaches Poll. The Scarlet Knights play seven times at home and also face Penn State (March 13) in a neutral-site game at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Six of the seven domestic players this season appeared in the national ranking at least once last season.
RU’s home game against Northwestern will be broadcast on BTN. All game times will be specified later. The 2023 Big Ten Tournament begins Saturday, April 29 at designated school sites, with the semifinals and finals scheduled for April 4-6. May in Columbus, Ohio.
Rutgers was ranked as high as No. 7 in preseason polls and returns three All-Americans Meghan Ball, Marin Hartshorn and Cassidy Spilis from last year’s team. Under Lehman, the reigning Big Ten coach of the year, RU enjoyed its most successful season in school history: a program-record 16 wins in 2022, a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and the team’s first top-10 ranking in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll (No. 10). The Scarlet Knights beat six ranked opponents during the 2022 campaign and advanced to their first-ever Big Ten Tournament championship game with a win over No. 4 Northwestern’s first Wildcats and the most wins in school history.
Rutgers opens its season on Sunday, Feb. 12 at No. 15 Jacksonville.
