The Spiders tab No. 20 in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Poll

Richmond, Va. The University of Richmond men’s lacrosse team checked in at No. 20 in the Inside Lacrosse Men’s Division I Preseason Media Poll, which was released Monday.

The Spiders enter the 2023 season after making their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022. Richmond posted an 11-5 season and won the Southern Conference Championship to earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

This year’s team returns the scoring power in the seniors Dalton Young who finished second on the team in 2022 with 39 goals as well as Lance Madonna (25 goals in 2022) and brother Derek Madonna (33 goals in 2022), who transferred from Hobart for his final year of eligibility. Defensively, Richmond brings back Jake Saunders who started 14 of 15 games last season and helped the Spiders rank eighth in defense with 10.06 goals per game.thoverall by the Las Vegas Desert Dogs in the 2022 NLL Entry Draft.

This year’s schedule features games against four teams ranked in Inside Lacrosse’s Men’s Division I Preseason Media Poll, including the top three in No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 Maryland and No. 3 Georgetown. Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph’s checked in at No. 15.

The season begins Feb. 4 when the Spiders travel to defending national champion Maryland. Game time is set at 1:00 PM at SECU Stadium.
