Softball Falls in Tuesday’s event at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – – In its final non-conference game of the season, the Ball State softball team suffered a 10-2 (6) setback to Notre Dame on Tuesday night at Melissa Cook Stadium.

When the Fighting Irish (21-10-1) put three runs on the board in the bottom of the second, the senior designated player The end Daniel responded with a two-out, two-run single in the top of the third to bring the Cardinals (16-17) back within one.

Unfortunately, Notre Dame countered for the final seven innings of the game.

HIGHLIGHTS

• In addition to getting Ball State’s first hit of the game, the redshirt freshman shortstop McKenna Mulholland made a spectacular diving catch for Notre Dame’s second of the day.
• Freshman Bridie Murphy led the Cardinals circle, limiting the Irishman to two hits and two runs over 2.0 innings of work.
• Redshirt sophomore third baseman Emma Richards provided Ball State’s third hit of the game, a single to left.

• B4 | Lexi Orozco’s RBI single gives the Irish a chance to regain a three-run lead. (5-2)
• B4 | With runners on first and third, a throwing error on a stolen base attempt at second allows the second run to score. (6-2)

• B6 | A bases loaded comebacker into the circle allowed the second UND run to score. (8-2)

This team has really stuck together since the beginning. Their goal is to stay together through the good, the bad or the ugly. That’s the best thing about this team, they’re going to put up a lot of fight. I’m really excited for this weekend because it means a lot to them to come home and get into conference play.

Ball State returns home on Friday to open a three-game series against Toledo on the first pitch at 3:00 PM at First Merchants Ballpark Complex Softball Field. The Cardinals and Rockets will also play Saturday at 1 p.m.
