Jacobusse ends the Huskies T&F season at the NCAA Championships

PEOPLE, Ev. – Senior Jesse Jacobusse ended his Husky career by winning the 800-meter heats at the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field meet in Pueblo, Colo., on Friday night.

“The end of the season is always bittersweet and especially when your student-athletes don’t have their best performances to close things out,” assistant head coach Robert Young said. .

“Each has left an undeniable mark on the program and created a foundation that we strive to continue to build on. Losing them means we have big gaps to fill, but they’ve also led the way so our next generation knows they too can compete at the national level.”

Chelsea, Michigan, finished seventh in the first heat of the women’s 800-meter heat with a time of 2:17.83. Overall, Jacobusse placed 18th in the event.

Jacobusse covered the 400m in 1:03.98 to hold sixth place before dropping to seventh in the final 400m.

“Jesse is one of the most driven people I have ever met, and he will finish his career at Tech as one of the best runners to ever come through a track and field team, including all the accolades he received as a member of the football program,” head coach Kristina Owen mentioned. “It’s rare to meet an athlete as talented and versatile as Jesse is. I’m so incredibly proud of all he’s accomplished and we’re so excited to see where his next adventures take him.”

I didn’t have the competition I wanted today,” Jacobusse said. “But my goals for the season were to go to nationals and set a school record, and I accomplished those goals. Competing on the national stage has been a dream of mine since I got to Tech and I was grateful to finally be able to do it, while having a great support system with me today certainly made it more special.

“My experience at Michigan Tech has been more valuable than I can express and I am so grateful for all the opportunities I have had to compete in a Tech uniform. I have been fortunate to have the most amazing coaches and teammates in my time. Michigan Tech and that alone made me a Husky something I will forever cherish.”

Jacobusse is the school record holder in the 800 meters, breaking the record set by Liz Bloche in 2019 with her 2:08.00 performance at the St. Francis Last Chance Invite the second weekend in May. He is also a two-time All-GLIAC performer in the 800 meters, placing third in the past two GLIAC Outdoor Championships.
