sports, local sports,
The Lithgow Table Tennis Federation has launched a winter competition, with four teams battling for the champion, who will be crowned in the grand final on September 1st. The union is also testing a new equalization system, which will be evaluated at the end of the season. Grippers and Smashes played a strange match that ended in the final rubber. The Grippers won by opening four rubbers all 2-1, gaining a solid 8-4 advantage, but the individual games that Smashes took would prove invaluable later on. In the 6-2 Smashes run, they took the draw with the 10-all team and the teams split the last two doubles to see the match subtly as 12-piece coming into the doubles. Smashes took both quite nicely, though secured a back result of 16-12. READ MORE: Smashes shared the prey with no one to stand out when Matthew Kappos went 5-3, Linda Kappos 4-5 and Shane Eagle 3-4. Lou Kappos (6-2) was the best for the Grippers, while Pauline Wellfare kept the distance 4-5 and Mark McAulay finished 2-5. In the match between Charolais and Choppers, Choppers squeezed an early 4-1 break and looked strong. Charolais fought back to lead a moment 5-4 before the Choppers continued 8-7 forward deep into the match. Charolais stepped on the fuel from there and took the final eight games without an answer to get a nice 15-8 win. Peter Jaccoud hit the field for Charolais and set the first full 6-0 record for the race. Jason Bailey returned 3-4 and Sean Jenkins 2-4. Leon Rust was the only Chopper to make it a positive area 4-2, while Riza Wiradi went 2-4 and Maurie Poole 2-5. Score: Charolais 4, Smashes 4, Grippers 1, Choppers 0.
