By Dan Ambrose: Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza commented on Friday about the sexual assault allegations that surfaced online this week about Rolando ‘Roly’ Romero from his massive title fight against WBA regular champion ‘Gervonta’ Tank ‘Davis on December 5.

Espinoza says the allegations against Rolly, 24, (14-0, 12 KOs) are “disturbing” and he’s keeping an eye on the situation.

Tank Davis (25-0, 24 KOs) is still in place for December 5. Espinoza hasn’t taken Rolly off the map, but we’ll see if that changes.

If Rolly is taken off the map, Espinoza will have to act soon as this is a Showtime PPV event, and Tank Davis will need a notable opponent to sell him.

They can’t replace Rolly Romero with an unknown scrub opponent for Gervonta to fight on December 5 and expect boxing fans to want to pay $ 70 to see him on Showtime.

“We were surprised like everyone else. That’s a lot of troubling things about the allegations. We are looking at it very closely. We don’t want to rush into a decision until we have all the facts, so we are watching it, ”Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza told Behind The Gloves of Rolly Romero’s allegations.

“We don’t have a decision to comment on at the moment, but it’s something we’re definitely monitoring as it evolves,” Espinoza said.

It will be a big blow if Rolly is taken off the map as there isn’t much time to find a replacement for Gervonta to fight. Mayweather promotions don’t have a lot of options available for finding someone who has the popularity to sell a Tank fight on a PPV.

Leonard Ellerbe and Floyd Mayweather Jr. would not be able to recruit someone like Vasily Lomachenko, Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney or Teofimo Lopez as a replacement opponent for Tank Davis to fight on December 5th.

A great option would be featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr if he was ready to move up two divisions to fight with Tank at the last minute.

Using Russell as a replacement would be potentially tricky because if negotiations drag on too long for him to accept the fight, Mayweather Promotions will run out of time.

Russell would be the best possible option for a replacement, but negotiations would likely prejudice his use as a replacement for Gervonta.
