Allegation of foreign funding is ridiculous, says SHCBA chief

LAHORE: Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) President Salahuddin Ahmed Advocate said on Tuesday that “it is ridiculous to say that the Asma Jahangir conference was held with foreign funding, in unless you prove that the funding was made by anti-Pakistani forces ”. To discredit the conference by saying it was funded from abroad is unfortunate, he added.

Speaking on a private news channel, he said there was no secret foreign funding for the event. It has been funded by the European Union and other European donors and the names of donors have been duly listed as sponsors of the program.

The lead lawyer said that the Pakistani government also organizes such conferences with funding from international organizations. He said that the Pakistani justice system’s “access to justice program” was also launched with foreign funding of $ 350 million, and all of its infrastructure was established with foreign money. He said this program has been going on for 10 to 15 years.

Salahuddin Ahmed said that the Pakistani government’s health and education programs are also implemented with foreign funds. He said that when Prime Minister Imran Khan brings money from Saudi Arabia and China, it was not foreign funding.

“Regarding the issue of a fugitive’s speech at the event, I have seen various lectures given by Julian Assange at American universities, although he is also a fugitive,” said the head of the ‘lawyer. Julian Assange is an Australian writer, editor and activist who founded WikiLeaks in 2006. “This is not something unusual and there was no legal obstacle to it,” added Salahuddin Ahmad.
